AUSTRALIA: YOUTH MINISTRY CONVENTION: OCT.1-3

Cath News report:
The Australian Catholic Youth Ministry Convention (ACYMC) starts in Melbourne today, where participants will " reflect on the graces and challenges of youth ministry in the church in our country", said Bishop Joseph Grech.
"It will be a time of formation, prayer, celebration and fellowship," said Bishop Grech, the Australian Catholic Bishops' delegate for youth, in a statement.
"The theme for the 2010 ACYMC is "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" (MK 10:17). This is also the theme of WYD2010 as set by Pope Benedict XVI . In youth ministry we are called to help young people seek the answers by sharing with them passionately, constantly and boldly the presence and the teachings of Jesus Christ. This work with the young heart of the church is crucial in fanning the fire of Jesus Christ in our world today."
"Having already received 380 registrations for the convention it shows an overwhelming need to gather youth ministers and education professionals from around the nation for formation and networking opportunities," said Senior Youth Ministry Projects Officer, Malcolm Hart.
"With presentations from bishops and experienced youth ministers from around Australia it will be a great to share and showcase the best of youth ministry in Australia."
This year's convention also includes, Dr Bob McCarty, the Executive Director of the National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM) in the USA. The NFCYM hosts 2 big events in the USA - National Catholic Youth Convention which gathers over 20,000 young people and the National Conference on Catholic Youth Ministry which forms 2,500 youth ministers.
He is an author of a number of youth ministry books and travels internationally including the UK earlier this year to work with the newly established Catholic Youth Ministry Federation where he addressed over 1,000 youth ministers. He will be speaking at the ACYMC on foundational and inspirational youth ministry.
