ASIA: HONG KONG SEMINAR ON SCRIPTURE

Agenzia Fides report – Pope Benedict XVI has encouraged the participants to the ninth seminar of Sacred Scripture in Chinese (see Fides 11/10/2010) to promote Bible reading. According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), in the message signed by the Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Pope Benedict XVI hopes that "the seminar will become an opportunity for encounter with and renewal in the Lord, for everyone. Furthermore, the Holy Father invokes the intercession of Mary, Star of Evangelization, bestowing his apostolic blessing as a pledge of divine grace."About 120 delegates from Asia, Europe, and Oceania are taking part in the Ninth Seminar of the Holy Scriptures in Chinese, organized by the Federation of Chinese Catholic Biblical Associations, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, November 11 to 15. Coinciding with the work of the seminar, whose theme is "Living the Word of God and Building the Kingdom of God," was the publishing of the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation "Verbum Domini" which reaffirms the need for "to discover ever anew the urgency and the beauty of the proclamation of the word for the coming of the Kingdom of God which Christ himself preached." During the proceedings of the seminar, the participants also referred to the final message of the Synod, addressed "to the people of God."
