AUSTRALIA: WYD 2011 AWARENESS WEEKEND

Cath News report: Parishes across Sydney will hold a World Youth Day 2011 Madrid "awareness weekend" this weekend to alert parishioners and encourage registration, reports The Catholic Weekly.
"The archdiocese is expecting to send a large contingent of pilgrims and so we're offering a variety of pilgrimage options," said Bishop Julian Porteous, auxiliary Bishop of Sydney.
"There will be seven different pilgrimage options for post-school youth, and three for school age pilgrims.
"Because of the focus on the canonisation of St Mary of the Cross, we've not had a major promotion of WYD across the Archdiocese as yet.
"On this weekend, however we propose to have a young person to speak briefly at the end of each parish Mass; with the distribution of special WYD promotional packs to those considering attending; and the use of a promotional DVD before or after Mass."
World Youth Day will be held in Madrid from August 16-21.
