VATICAN: POPE APPOINTMENT OF SUCCESSOR OF BISHOP


  • WAIVER OF THE BISHOP of Evansville (USA) AND APPOINTMENT OF SUCCESSOR(APRIL 26)

    Pope Benedict XVI accepted the resignation from the diocese of Evansville (USA), presented by Bishop Gerald Andrew Gettelfinger, in accordance with canon 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law.

    The Pope has appointed Bishop of Evansville (USA) The Rev. Charles C. Rev.do Thompson, the clergy of the Archdiocese of Louisville, Vicar General and Parish Priest of the "Holy Trinity Parish in Louisville.

    Rev.do Bishop Charles C. Thompson
    The Rev. Charles C. Rev.do Thompson was born on 11 April 1961 in Louisville (Kentucky). After attending elementary school "Saint Charles" and secondary school, "Moore High School in Louisville, he attended Bellarmine College, where he earned a Bachelor's in" Accounting "in 1983. He then, in 1987, received his Master of Divinity in Theology from the "Saint Meinrad School of Theology in Saint Meinrad (Indiana). He was ordained a priest May 30, 1987 for the Archdiocese of Louisville.
    In 1992 he obtained a licentiate in Canon Law at Saint Paul University in Ottawa (Canada).
    After ordination he held the following positions: assistant pastor of Saint Joseph Pro-Cathedral and Chaplain of the Bethlehem High School in Bardstown (1987-1990), assistant pastor of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Louisville (1992-1993) ; Metropolitan Judicial Vicar (1993-1998), Administrator of the Saint Peter Claver Parish in Louisville (1994-1996), Chaplain of thePresentation Academy in Louisville (1995-1997), pastor of St. Augustine Parish in Lebanon (1996-2002), Defender the Bond and Judge of the Court Archdiocesan (1998-2008), pastor of Holy Trinity Parish in Louisville (since 2002), Vicar General (since 2008). It is also Adjunct Professor of Canon Law at the Saint Meinrad School of Theology .
    Besides English, he knows Spanish.
