AMERICA: COLOMBIA: PEACE MOVEMENT CELEBRATES 2OTH ANNIVERSARY

Agenzia Fides report - The movement "Laicos por Colombia" (Laity for Colombia) is celebrating today, July 9th, the 20th anniversary of its foundation. The Eucharistic celebration that recalls the anniversary will be presided by Mgr.Libardo Ramirez, Bishop Emeritus of Garzon. "Laicos por Colombia" is a Catholic lay movement that aims to evangelize policy through testimony, which is also expressed through active participation in the creation of a political model of communion based on Catholic principles. The aim is to unify Colombia to make it a pioneer in building a civilization of life, truth and love in Latin America and in the contemporary world.
"Laicos por Colombia" is not an apostolic association or a political party, but a socio-political movement that has the charisma to evangelize the world of politics, according to the words of Gaudium et Spes: "It is the duty of Christians to adhere to a political choice as individuals and groups "(GS73). "Regarding free initiative, it is up to lay people, without waiting passively for orders and directives, to include the Christian spirit into the mentality and customs, in laws and structures of the communities in which they live" (Medellin 10-9).
Under the direction of Dr. Carlos Corsi Otalora, who was president of the National Council for the Laity, a member of the Pontifical Council for the Laity and the Executive Secretary of the Department of the Laity of Celam, the movement has participated in many events of city life for peace and defense of life. Recently it has supported the campaign in favor of marriage according to the teaching of the Catholic Church.
