AFRICA: KENYA: NEW RULES FOR SEMINARIES

CISA REPORT: NAIROBI, October 28, 2011 (CISA) –Kenyan Catholic Church is working on a document to guide the formation of future priests in line with new evangelization, CISA has learned.

Fr Joseph Kamau, Rector of St Mary’s Seminary in Molo, Kenya told CISA on October 27 in an interview at the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) regional meeting in Nairobi that the draft document called Ratio Fondamentalis, will be presented to the bishops at their Plenary Assembly in November 2011.

Fr Kamau told CISA that once the bishops approve the document it will be presented to the Vatican for ratification before implementation.

Among the highlights on the draft document is the introduction of information and communications technology (ICT) in seminaries, training of formators in psychology as a tool of formation and new rules of life for seminarians.

Fr Kamau said this will tackle some of the challenges faced in formation of priests in a modernised world.
