#Breaking Millions of Catholics in #Philippines Honor Jesus in Procession of #BlackNazarene


The Black Nazarene (Spanish: El Nazareno Negro, Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno; Filipino: Poóng Itím na Nazareno), is a life-sized statue of Jesus Christ at the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene in the Quiapo district of Manila, Philippines. The image, was carved by an Mexican artist during the 17th century. It depicts Jesus with the cross on the way to his crucifixion. The statue is thouhgt to be miraculous by many Filipino Catholics. The three dates when the statue is brought out of its shrine for public veneration: New Year's Day; Good Friday; and January 9. The procession occurs on  January 9th. The Traslación procession is the largest of the three, with millions of faithful and lasts about 14 to 20 hours. This is one of the largest annual processions in the world. There was also a procession happening in the United States to commemorate the Black Nazarene.
